At the Green Group, we are committed to protecting the environment. Recently, we invested £160,000 to install a wastewater recovery system to help us in our sustainability journey. With it, we will reduce and reuse our water to thereby decrease our overall energy consumption.
The machine is a renewable energy source that utilises the Law of Conservation of Energy. Rather than reheating cool water, it preserves heat from waste water and reuses it in the process of warming clean water. The result is overall lower energy consumption during the washing process. Heat recovery machine systems are capable of recovering as much as 80% of energy used in the process (Windt, 2023). For example, before the heat exchanger, if the used water going out is 75°C and the cold water temperature is 13°C, the exchanger gives an overall recovered temperature of 47°C–an 80% recovery. Reusing heat already present cuts down on the amount of gas needed to wash linens.
With this new technology, we can:
- Reduce energy consumption and water usage
- cut down on greenhouse gas emission and water waste
- Increase our energy efficiency
This change is just one way in which we at the Green Group are taking action to realise our sustainability goal of carbon neutrality.
Stay tuned for more exciting developments here at the Green Group!
